Situated on the Princes Highway about 10 kms south of Batemans Bay, the uniquely preserved and developed village of Mogo takes the visitor back to the 19th century with its traditional architecture and proliferation of tourist attractions, cottage industries and handcrafts.
There are many galleries of fine Australian craft and art work including works from some of the very talented Koori artists on the South Coast. A visit to the Dimbaloo Gallery and Koori art workshop run by Mary and Brian Daly and artist Colin Davis reveals a community project that is encouraging young artists to express themselves through their art.
In the short time that the project has been running, a number of young people have revealed artistic talents which would otherwise probably have remained undiscovered. Colin and others are featured on the Dimbaloo Art Gallery website.
Mogo provides the perfect break from the beach or bush focus of most people's visit to the region. Browse the many shops and enjoy the quality of the handcrafts produced by the local artisans. Enjoy a meal or a snack at the special country fare restaurants and coffee shops.
Don't forget to visit the Mogo Zoo where many exotic species are housed, some as part of the world wide preservation program for endangered exotic animals. Here you can see tigers, lions, apes, reptiles and many other interesting creatures from places far and near.
If you are feeling lucky, it might be an opportune time to go fossicking for gold at an operational goldmine near the town. All equipment is supplied and while many have made small and not so small discoveries, the big nuggets are still waiting.
