History
Coolangatta is Shoalhaven's first settlement. The impressive home and grounds of the first white settler, Alexander Berry, is now restored and operates as a resort. The history of the area and in particular of the esteemed Mr Berry, gives a fascinating account of pioneer spirit and adventure.
Behind the settlement lies its namesake, the sentinel Coolangatta Mountain. Coolangatta is a Koori native name meaning splendid view.
A bustling and colourful crafts centre is also located at Coolangatta.
Some of the prettiest, harmonic meldings of rural lands, river flats, ocean, bush and mountains are seen in the Coolangatta Shoalhaven Heads area.
