Skiing in winter, South Coast NSW

While we don't really have any snow on the South Coast, it is only a couple of hours from Australia's premier Snowy Mountains snowfields and offers a fabulous alternative or a bonus extra to a snow holiday.

Our winters are great. People of Canberra and Sydney do not generally recognise the South Coast as a winter destination but once you have experienced the beautiful sunny days, the peace and solitude and the fantastic low prices you may change your mind.

Weather: Is glorious. Our typical days are warm (around 20degrees max) and sunny. A light jumper for the cooler shady forests is all you will need. The nights away from the coast itself are cool but most accommodation has good heating and our nights are perfect for a cosy open fire and the atmosphere that brings. Rainy days are few.

Accommodation: Is abundant and cheap. In the non-summer months, accommodation is discounted by as much as 50% from the peak summer months. Proprietors who suffer from demand stresses in summer are much more attentive and you will find that the quality of service more personal.

Crowds: Are gone. You will experience the coast like you never will in summer. Little traffic, no queues and solitude in our special places will provide you with a getaway experience that you will not find anywhere else on the NSW coast. At this time of the year our small towns are small towns once again.

Attractions: Some people still swim in winter, but most use the beach for long, peaceful walks where you can enjoy the solitude of our beautiful beaches and the clean surf without people or summer beach activities. The cooler months are the best time for bushwalking amongst our magnificent forests and mountain wonders. Fishing is at its best and charter boats can take you out for tuna, kingies and great reef fishing. Of course, our tourist attractions are often best experienced outside the hot summer days. Don't miss our great art galleries and the historic art/craft/antique shopping villages of Tilba, Mogo, Milton and Berry.

Why not ... add a few days to your visit to Perisher, Smiggins, Blue Cow or Jindabyne to allow you a leisurely return trip to Sydney along the South Coast. It is great at this time of the year ... this is the big secret that you should discover for yourself.
